The tragedy of the barre d'Etel

On October 3rd 1958, Alain Bombard and six volunteers attempted to cross the "barre" in order to test his new lifeboat. The venture turned to disaster when the boat Bombard sunk along with a rescue boat, resulting in a terrible nine deaths including six rescuers, one of them was the mechanic on the rescue helicopter.
